Most of the drumming you hear on the collection, as well as co-writing on many of the tracks (most notably, "Prometheus"), were performed and created by Merrill Hale. Hale has been the drummer for 2KX since the 2K9 project, as well as for ARZ and a number of Portland-area bands. Merrill has been diagnosed with ALS.

“Merrill is an integral part of the 2KX sound. It’s only right we do this, especially in light of the upcoming 10 year anniversary of 2KX,” said LaRue.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. More info about ALS can be found at http://www.alsa.org/

2KX bandmates, technicians and guests include Steve Adams, Mike Alvarez, Don Schiff, John Baker, John Payne, Michael Sadler and many others. They all thank you on behalf of Merrill for helping the efforts to beat ALS!

Recently signed to Melodic Revolution Records, keybordist & composer Lisa LaRue is set to release her new album “Origins” in April 2018! A double album celebrating 25 years and 11 release by LaRue, “Origins” features some of the best musicians in the business: John Payne Asia, GPS), Michael Sadler (Saga), Mitch Perry (Talas, Aerosmith), Gilli Smyth (Gong), Don Schiff (Rocket Scientist, Kracked Earth), Federico Fantacone (Orchestre Celesti) John Baker (Forever Twelve, Mars Hollow) as well as Steve Adams, Brenda K, Michael Wheeler, Merrill Hale, Svetlan Raket (Par Lindh Project), John “Yafke” Timothy, Michael Alvarez.

Says Lisa, “The title takes it back to where it all started. Finishing a career, where one started. The photo on the back of the CD was taken on Burnett's Mound, an infamous site in Topeka, Kansas where I grew up, and where the photo of 'Kansas' was taken on the back of their first album. They were very influential and inspirational to me as a young keyboardist/musician growing up in Topeka. The Sunflower on the front represents my origins in Topeka, as well.”

Lisa LaRue became the first female artist signed to the Sound of America Records label (SOAR) a sub label of Natural Visions, the first all-Native American record label founded by Grammy Winner and Motown producer Tom Bee. In 2008 Lisa was nominated for a Hollywood Music Award and was also awarded The Oklahoma Music Award for “Native American Artist of the Year.” Her band 2KX was Nominated as Instrumental Band of the Year in 2011 by the Los Angeles Music Awards.

Lisa has also appeared on recordings by others, including Head Transfer Process (Stargazer), Esquire with Nikki Squire (“Stay Low”), Don Schiff, Ryo Okumoto, Oliver Wakeman, Steve Gresswell, Quester and Beyond the Labyrinth.

The songs on “Origins” were written and recorded over 25 years. Some in a small recording studio in Tahlequah, OK over a year's time with John “Yakfe” Timothy, and some in Los Angeles working extensively with John Payne as a co-producer, mixing engineer, bassist and vocalist. Also certain songs were known as some of the first prog projects done via internet transfer, and finalizes with “Sussuration” and “Lemniscate,” completely produced and mixed by LaRue.

Says Lisa, “This album is extremely important - it's important to me, as it represents 25 years of my life, and some of the best work I've done with some of the best friends in the world. It's important because it represents the unity and bringing together of many musicians, big and small, through the universal language, music. Lastly, it's important to fans, as it represents some of the obscure work of many top-notch artists that they may not have in their collection. Melodic Revolution and Nick Katona have always been known for bringing artists together, so there is no better label to showcase this 25 year effort.”

“Lisa has a unique perspective to her music. Her Prog rock style is highly influenced by her Native American roots. The listener is drawn in by the mystical and avant-garde approach. From my point of view it has always been a pleasure and great experience working on her music.” - John Payne

“A very atmospheric composition, with a lovely tranquil finale. I hear a lot of my father's influence in it, a beautiful arrangement.” - Aaron Emerson (son of Keith Emerson) regarding the song “Aspiration”

“Some incredible music with 2K9 and 2KX. 2K9 was the beginning….getting to know each other musically, hoping that what you submitted met the criterion, listening to each other's output and certainly not wanting to overplay. In my opinion though, this process came to fruition with 2KX's 'Fast & Blue': an accord harmonically, rhythmically, and melodically. I would call a musical synchronicity. Plus I had a joyous yet challenging time contributing!” - Steve Adams, guitarist for Lisa LaRue Project 2K9 and for 2KX

In conjunction with the release of “Origins,” Lisa would like to focus on licensing for soundtracks, television, etc., and being a guest orchestrator on other artist's projects. In closing she has this to impart, “This album brings together all of the messages of all of my albums. Heritage and culture, bringing people together from around the world, giving each other creative outlets, and finding your spirit means you've made peace with the world and yourself.”

The announcement was made during a semi-reunion show and subsequent radio interview in June, and came on the heels of a show billed as “John Baker and Steve Mauk Perform the Music of Mars Hollow” in Chicago. The show was the first time Mars Hollow has performed live since May, 2012. The most recent studio effort from the group was the track “So Far Away,” which also had a video release and was included on the Mars Hollow Live album. The album, also available on DVD, documented the band's 'Church of Prog' spot at RosFest, 2011 and was released in Fall of 2012.

However, guitarist and lead vocalist John Baker says that the new band will update both its name and line-up to fit the spirit and music of the new incarnation, and will be called “Life After Mars.” The band's debut album release is tentatively scheduled for Summer, 2018.

Says John, “As Life After Mars is the newly reformed incarnation of Mars Hollow, the best way to explain it is 'Mars Hollow…the Next Generation.”

Mars Hollow landed on the progressive rock scene in 2010 with their self-titled debut album, produced by Ronan Chris Murphy, and followed up in 2011 with “World In Front of Me,” co-produced by Mars Hollow's John Baker and Billy Sherwood, now of Yes. Playing festivals and numerous gigs in the USA, Mexico and Canada, the band also played and toured with Billy Sherwood's Circa, and received accolades and positive reviews for several years. In the spirit of progressive rock, “Life After Mars” seems a natural progression.

Says John, “I think of this as good timing. A perfect time to rethink your mindset, and have a new jumping off point. At one time, walking on the moon, or landing on Mars was the future. Everyone wondered if there was life on mars, and now they are talking about colonization of Mars. Truly, the FUTURE is life AFTER mars.”

Life After Mars features:
John Baker – lead vocals and guitars
Don Schiff – NS stick, various basses and string instruments
Lisa LaRue – keyboards
Emily Dolan Davies – drums

Bios:
JOHN BAKER
Throughout the years, John Baker has held stints as guitarist and backing vocalist for various original bands and musicians, including Christian Love of “The Beach Boys” and bassist for The Little Girls.
Here's what the press have said about Mars Hollow:

“It's quite clear that Mars Hollow is a band to be reckoned with. This is no garage band, but a very serious group of players with some serious chops.” - Rok Podgrajšek - The Rocktologist

“If you take a little bit of Yes - mostly in John Baker's vocals - and a little bit of Rush (also there in the vocals), that's a bit what Mars Hollow sound like.” - Stephanie Sollow - ProgressiveWorld.net

“Each member of the quartet is a star player in his own right. Their sound is a rocking and melodic mix of the best of Yes & Genesis with a bit of latter-day King Crimson.” - Mike Flavin - USA Prog Music

Award winning national talk radio show host Ed Tyll did a feature on 2KX and "Sussuration," and LOVES it. Take a listen to the debut, and you will see why we do what we do. LaRue said, “2KX is excited about being able to make music again, after taking a break due to health reasons. The track has a classic 2KX sound, and goes through four movements, the last illustrating sussuration which is the sound of wind through the trees”. The release involves an unusual feature in that one movement of the song will be available as a special 7”, hand-shaped lathe cut record. The record is cut real time on a vintage 1940 record lathe. This movement is the ballad section of the song and the only part with vocals. The CD/EP will contain the full-length version of ‘Sussuration” as well as a previously released singles from 2KX: “Lemniscate,” a radio edit of “Sussuration,” and a bonus of “Song For a Name – 2KX” by Johnny Unicorn It will be available as a CD and an mp3 album in addition to the radio edit “Sussuration” ballad which will be produced in a very limited quantity as the hand-shaped lathe cut 7” record. The CD cover art is by Keith Birdsong, famous for his Star Trek book covers and other outstanding work. Digital downloads will be available September 1, with the CD, special edition record, videos and more available soon after.
2KX members are Lisa LaRue on keyboards, Steve Adams on guitar, Mike Alvarez on cello, John Baker for vocals, Merrill Hale for drums and percussion, and Don Schiff on bass and NS Stick. Baker, previously lead vocalist/guitarist for Mars Hollow as well as playing for Christian Love (The Beach Boys) and The Little Girls, joins as a band member on this release, as lead vocalist. Special guests are Michael Wheeler playing Dilruba and violinist Brenda K of the Panache Orchestra. The album was produced and mixed by LaRue and mastered by multi-Grammy mastering engineer Adam Ayan of Bob Ludwig’s Gateway Mastering. Ayan is known for his mastering of bands such as The Rolling Stones, Nine Inch Nails, Rush, Linkin Park and numerous others.
Prior to their two-year break period, 2KX was nominated as Best Instrumental Band at the 21st Annual Los Angeles Music Awards. Earlier career highlights for Lisa LaRue include being the first female artist signed to the Sound of America Records (SOAR) Natural Visions sub label, the 2008 Oklahoma Music Awards “Native American Artist of the Year” and a 2008 nominee for the Hollywood Music Awards Instrumental category.

This is very important, and exciting news. Patients wih Cushings have a 4.6 year life expectancy without treatment. I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful alternative health provider, and through several regimens and some herbal supplements and diet changes, I finally reached remission. I have had several bouts with adrenal crisis, coming close to going into shock and near death on one occasion. I still need to pay very close attention to diet, hydration, and living conditions due to the CAH, and will have to do so for the rest of my life, as there is no cure for Salt-wasting Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia.

I also was afflicted by, and diagnosed with, Frozen Shoulder about a year ago (before going into Cushing's remission), totally prohibiting me from playing keyboards, and even personal activities such as bathing, washing my hair, and dressing. It is now at about 90% recovered - I can dress myself, and lo and behold, I have been playing the piano!! It takes about 2 days afterwards to not have any pain in the arms, but I'm doing it, nonetheless.

I wanted you all to know how much I've appreciated your support, and that because of the very many personal notes, I am hoping to start making music again very soon! Knowing that many of you appreciate my music and are wanting to hear more is just as important as my own passion to play and write. So, keep your eyes and ears open!! I might just do a little piano track here and there...........

Love to you all,
LisaLisa LaRue, keyboardist, artist and authortag:www.lisalaruemusic.com,2005:Post/17549952012-07-13T00:00:00-05:002017-01-11T07:46:20-06:00LaRue Debut Photo Exhibit at former Doors Workshop<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

Американская клавишница и автор песен Лиза ЛаРю (Lisa LaRue) сочинила и записала эпическую прог-рок композицию Lemniscate - Children of the Bulgaria, Read more
Lisa LaRue, keyboardist, artist and authortag:www.lisalaruemusic.com,2005:Post/17549972012-05-18T00:00:00-05:002012-05-18T00:00:00-05:002KX Tributes Russian Tragedy July 2012 American progressive rock keyboardist and songwriter Lisa LaRue has crafted an epic song to tribute the children lost in the tragic July 10th, 2011 sinking of the Russian tourist ship "Bulgaria". The "Bulgaria”, in dire need of repair and over capacity, sailed on the Volga River and rapidly floundered in bad weather. Over one hundred were lost in the disaster including over fifty children enjoying themselves in the ship's playroom. When a disc jockey from a Moscow radio station brought the tragedy to the attention of LaRue, she felt compelled to make a heartfelt statement, recalling an incident from the history of her Native American Cherokee Indian heritage. "When my grandmother was a child, she lived at a mission and the fullblood children were locked in a certain cabin at night, apparently so they couldn't leave and return home. One night, there was a fire and all of them perished. We all began as one people, there is one God, one truth. Music is the Universal language, but so are children."

Investigations indicated the Bulgaria operated as a cruise ship without a proper license and carried eighty people more than the rated capacity when she left the dock at Bolgar bound for Kazan on that ill-fated day. To compound the tragedy, two ships passed the sinking "Bulgaria" without stopping to assist, a matter under investigation by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. The accident happened so rapidly that the crew was unable to launch any lifeboats. This tragedy shook the region of the Russian Federation but has been mostly overlooked. LaRue feels this event deserves worldwide attention, reminding us how often we overlook one of our greatest treasures - our children. "(Children) are born with no specific language, but are taught and molded by us. It is all of our jobs to raise the children of the world, and a responsibility to put their safety and futures as our priority. We need to make sure regulations and policies are in place the world over to protect this treasure - our children."

For "Lemniscate - Children of the Bulgaria", Lisa LaRue 2KX (including LaRue, guitarist Steve Adams, NS Stick/upright bass player Don Schiff, sax player and flutist Dave Schiff, cellist Mike Alvarez and drummer Merrill Hale) is joined with special guests John Baker (Mars Hollow) and Michael Sadler (Saga) on choir vocals. According to LaRue, "The song is a thirteen minute prog epic that is a musical drama telling a very sonically vivid story of the terrible events of that day."

Lisa LaRue, an award winning keyboardist and composer, first became known for her Native American-influenced music when she was the first female artist signed to the Sound of America Records label (SOAR) Natural Visions imprint. Heavily influenced by the American and British prog rock scenes, she then focused on her own prog projects Lisa LaRue 2K9 and later Lisa LaRue 2KX releasing the critically acclaimed CD "Fast and Blue". With her more recent project, the EP "Beautiful Life", LaRue has donated the proceeds to benefit a dedicated fan’s ailing spouse.

"Lemniscate - Children of the Bulgaria" will debut on night July 7 and July 12, 2012, the one year anniversary of the tragedy. It will be aired by DJ Igor Dygalo's radio shows “Pearl Diver” and “Red Shark” in Moscow and can be accessed, respectively, on-line July 7 at http://www.rockfm.ru. Other tracks on the CD are more conventional and song-based, like the title track with a commanding vocal from Payne, dutiful backing vocals from Nil and an anxious guitar solo from Adams. read more
Lisa LaRue, keyboardist, artist and authortag:www.lisalaruemusic.com,2005:Post/17550022011-07-11T00:00:00-05:002011-07-11T00:00:00-05:00Ytsejam Review!Like The Tangent's The Music that Died Alone and Proto Kaw under a heavy Vangelis influence, Fast and Blue is an album of LaRue's true musical identity, and the music itself is more eased and tame, without a bunch of wild improvisations or jitteriness, as it's about taking a melody and giving it a work over. Read more
Lisa LaRue, keyboardist, artist and authortag:www.lisalaruemusic.com,2005:Post/17550072011-06-04T00:00:00-05:002011-06-04T00:00:00-05:00Prognaut Review!!" ... the music here is EPIC!
